A Baton Rouge firefighter is collecting donations to send to victims of Hurricane Dorian in The Bahamas.

Jehu Poitier, a Bahamas native, rented a storage unit to store all of the supplies he's collected and plans to help the families who have taken in other families.

Potier says his plan is to load up a truck and drive it to Miami first and then transport the donations to the island.

The firefighter says he's grateful that members of the community stepped up to help people from a place he loves.
