Construction contractor Matthew Morris is opting to plead guilty to a single count of filing or maintaining false public records.

Morris was indicted earlier on 51 counts of contractor and insurance fraud, theft, extortion and more in Livingston Parish and another 84 counts in Ascension Parish.

He would sign contracts with victims of the August 2016 floods and either leave work partially finished or never show up to start.  When victims failed to pay, he would put a lien on their property.

Morris received a four-year sentence and was ordered to pay $85,000 in restitution.
