2018 Season Begins With Quiet Tropics, Atlantic

National Hurricane Center In Miami Tracks Path Of Hurricane Joaquin

After an early start thanks to Subtropical Storm Alberto, the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season officially began Friday and will run through November 30.

The National Hurricane Center said things were quiet in the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic, with no signs of tropical development over the next five days.

"Long-term averages for the number of named storms, hurricanes, and major hurricanes are 12, 6, and 3, respectively," read the NHC's first Tropical Weather Outlook for the season issued Friday morning.
