Troopers Investigate Deadly-Officer Involved Shooting

Louisiana State Police are investigating the shooting and killing of an individual early last night by a Baton Rouge police officer.

It happened around 6:30 at The Palms Apartments on McClelland Drive. LSP officials say the shooting occurred when the officer got into a confrontation with the victim after being dispatched to the scene to escort a DCFS case worker.

WBRZ News 2 reports that authorities have confirmed the victim in the shooting was 24-year-old Calvin Toney.

In an apparent plea for calm, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome asked the community to withhold judgment until state police conclude their investigation.
