ESPN anchor Jemele Hill called President Donald Trump a “bigot” and a “white supremacist” and said his presidency was “the result of white supremacy” on Twitter this week. The network distanced itself from her tweets in a statement but hasn’t fired her – unlike other anchors in the past who made controversial comments.
What are people saying?
Because ESPN has fired people like Doug Adler and Anthony Federico for comments construed as racist but isn’t firing Hill, some conservatives are saying that ESPN has a double standard when it comes to employees who say things that offend people.
Glenn’s take:
ESPN isn’t operating on a double standard – the network is only following the progressive line. So anyone who says “guerilla” and is misheard gets fired, while hosts can safely decry the president as a white supremacist.
“They have chosen who they believe is right,” Glenn said. “They have chosen the progressive platform. … [ESPN] will side with the progressive agenda every single time.”
