Irma Downgraded To Tropical Storm

Hurricane Irma is now a tropical storm. The National Hurricane Center in Miami reports that maximum sustained winds have decreased to around 70 miles per hour with some gusts still nearing hurricane force.

The center of the storm is about 100 miles north of Tampa moving north-northwest at 18 miles per hour. Storm surge warning are still in effect throughout much of the region as the storm continues on its way.

Irma is predicted to move toward the northwest Florida coast this morning before crossing the panhandle into southern Georgia this afternoon. It's expected to move across Georgia and into Alabama tonight and tomorrow.
