Chance Grows For Possible Tropical Activity In Gulf

The National Hurricane Center continues to bump up the possibility of tropical activity in the Gulf after the weekend.

A low pressure system is expected to develop in the next few days over the Yucatan Peninsula and the northwestern Caribbean Sea. "Conditions appear to be favorable for gradual development of this system while it moves slowly northwestward into the southern Gulf of Mexico early next week," read the Friday morning Tropical Weather Outlook from the NHC. Its forecasters now give it a 60% chance of further development over the next five days.

In the tropical Atlantic, showers and thunderstorms associated with a tropical wave have become better organized and it now has a 40% chance of further development.
