Load Limit Lifted For Southbound Lanes Of LA 1 Bridge

A lowered load limit in effect for the LA 1 Intracoastal Waterway Bridge was removed for the southbound lanes of the bridge Monday by DOTD.

The limit of 15-25 tons remains in effect for the northbound lanes. Repairs continue and the departments hopes to lift the limit for the northbound lanes by mid-June.

DOTD lowered the load limit in late March after finding what it called "deficiencies" during an inspection.

“I’m proud of the quick response and hard work by all who were able to get the southbound lanes repaired before the estimated completion date of mid-June,” said DOTD Secretary Shawn D. Wilson. “Safety is our No. 1 priority.

"These types of emergency repairs will become more frequent if we fail to proactively invest in our transportation infrastructure system. This is an example of the impact infrastructure has on the economy, businesses and the traveling public.”
