Democrat Governor John Bel Edwards is not joining the Republican Party, contrary to rumors.
The governor's spokesman shot down the assertion Thursday, telling The Advocate that the governor is too busy governing to consider the switch.
The comment came in response to recent reports that the governor is contemplating the switch to better work with the state's Republican-controlled legislature.
A press release from the Louisiana GOP says even if the rumors were true, Edwards would not be welcome in the Republican Party.
