BATON ROUGE - Police arrested a Baton Rouge man after they said he kidnapped a school bus driver at gunpoint, then barricaded himself inside his home.
Police accused Jock Jones, 37, of aggravated kidnapping, carjacking and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Cpl. Don Coppola with Baton Rouge Police said at around 6:30 a.m. Monday, Jones kidnapped his ex-girlfriend on the school bus she was driving near her home on Hillmont Drive. Coppola said no students were on the bus at the time, and a witness at the victim's home called police.
Investigators said Jones forced the victim to drive the school bus to Jones's home on Billops. Police said as officers approached, Jones released his ex-girlfriend but barricaded himself inside his home.
A Special Response Team and patrol officers convinced Jones to surrender before 10 a.m. No one was injured during the kidnapping or response, according to police.
A school spokesperson said the incident happened before the bus was scheduled to begin its morning rounds. Authorities placed Capitol Elementary School on lockdown for an hour because it was in the vicinity, and students were picked up by an alternate bus.
