BATON ROUGE- State Senator "Bodi" White (R-Baton Rouge) submitted a plan to get the proposed City of St. George off the ground, should the planned city in southeast East Baton Rouge Parish be approved.
The bill sets up a transitional action plan then lays the ground work for an eventual city government.
If the city is created, leading a temporary group of city organizers would be seven members of a board of directors: one person appointed by the mayor-president, one person appointed by each of the two state senators representing the area, two people appointed by state house members in the area, and two people assigned from the backers of the City of St. George.
The proposal also outlines how taxes would be collected in the beginning, and for the future. Plus, how the two governments - City of St. George and Baton Rouge - would work together.
