BATON ROUGE - Police and firefighters are on the scene of a train derailment on Friday morning near the intersection of S. Choctaw Dr. and Sherwood Forest.

Baton Rouge firefighters said that evacuations of nearby businesses have begun. It does not appear that residences in the area are affected.

BRFD confirmed that six cars are off the rails and a HAZMAT crew is on its way to investigate. The derailed cars had cargo, but there is no word yet on what they were carrying.

S. Choctaw Dr. is currently closed from Sherwood Forest to Monterrey Blvd.

Police said there are no reported injuries at this point.
