BATON ROUGE - Our Lady of the Lake Hospital is just days away from opening its new state-of-the-art Heart and Vascular Institute in Baton Rouge.
The nine-story building will have 141 rooms all designed to enhance patient care, and the institute itself will be dedicated to heart, vascular, and critical care.
Hospital officials said it's critical to the Baton Rouge community, because cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for men and women throughout all racial and ethnic groups in Louisiana.
"It's very important that we take a leadership position in offering services to individuals in our community to help make a difference in their lives," said Terrie Sterling, the unit's chief operating officer.
The institute opens its doors next Wednesday. It will transfer about 120 patients to the new facility.
