LSU, newspapers have until Monday to haggle out deal

BATON ROUGE (WBRZ) - Lawyers for journalists and LSU were told by a judge Tuesday to come to an agreement about information dealing with the university's presidential search earlier this year.

Reporters sued when LSU refused to make the list of candidates for the job public. Eventually, the Board of Supervisors hired F. King Alexander for the position.

If they reach a proposed agreement, the lawyers will present it to Judge Janice Clark on Monday.

Under the possible terms, the documents would be kept secret from the public while the LSU board lodged its appeal of the ruling.

Hours before the latest decision Tuesday evening, Judge Janice Clark ordered East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputies to seize the documents. But, the deputies returned to court empty-handed.

LSU officials told the deputies the records were held by a Texas-based consulting firm that led the search.
