LIVINGSTON PARISH - People here are remembering the flooding they've recently experienced during Isaac and heavy January rains as Tropical Storm Karen makes a move toward the Gulf Coast.

"If we have that, we're going to have flooding," said Marilyn Exnicious. "We need to make precautions for it and make arrangements to move vehicles, and do whatever we need to do."

Exnicious says the flooding problem come from clogged ditches and improper drainage areas.

"The more development, the higher the water gets," said Exnicious. "I have no problem with development in this area, I think it should happen all over the place, but you need to take care of what's going on now."

This week, the Army Corps of Engineers proposed to construct a flood protection levee in Ascension Parish, which could keep an extra 100,000 people dry. Livingston Parish President Layton Ricks says that's not in the future plans for Livingston.

"It would create such a bowl for us," said Ricks. "I really don't see it ever happening in Livingston Parish."

Ricks said the parish is working to clear ditches as best they can to prepare for rain brought by Karen. Sand bags will be available in the event of any flooding.
