BATON ROUGE (WBRZ) - Firefighters planned an overnight assault on a stubborn fire.
"It's not nearly the biggest, but the most labor-intensive fire" a veteran firefighter said about the blaze at the Associated Grocers facility near the corner of Bluebonnet and Perkins.
Crews with the St. George Fire Protection District were having trouble dosing smoldering parts of the fire because of building renovations and construction features.
The fire was described as under control, but crews were going to work into the night to make sure it was extinguished. There was still a large presence at the scene after 10 o'clock Wednesday night.
The fire started before 1 p.m. and investigators have not determined a cause. That will likely come once the scene is safe, and the fire is out.
At the height of the emergency, it was dispatched as a two-alarm fire. Reportedly, the fire was burning in administrative offices and not the area where food is stored prior to being shipped to stores.
