BATON ROUGE - Emergency dispatchers in East Baton Rouge Parish are asking for new 911 operating systems in next year's budget.

EMS said they're working with computer systems that were first installed in 1986. They're looking for $5.1 million for new systems that can handle the increase in size and technological demand they're seeing.

"We've just become larger than the systems can handle," said Tammy Armand, telecommunications manager. "It works, nothing is broke, it's just not keeping up with technology in a way it needs to be."

EBR Metro Council will hear comments on the budget at a meeting tonight.
