Police detained a man a short time ago who matched the description of the person who robbed a bank in East Baton Rouge Parish Friday.

News 2 crews witnessed the takedown, which happened while authorities were searching an area near several schools. The suspect was chased and detained on the St. Jude the Apostle School campus.

Authorities responded to the Regions Bank branch at 7777 Jefferson Highway after the robbery was reported at 11:50 a.m. Cpl. L'Jean McKneely with Baton Rouge Police said the man handed the teller a note demanding money, then fled on foot after being given some.

St. Jude, Magnolia Elementary and Wildwood Elementary were all put on lockdown during the search of the area. Magnolia and Wildwood were taken off lockdown after the arrest.
