BATON ROUGE- Crews will be spending another night out, de-icing priority highways as temperatures spend hours below freezing.

Overnight Wednesday and into Thursday morning, highway leaders will be monitoring weather conditions and road surfaces for problems. There could be closures, the state said late Wednesday.

Before sunrise, temperatures could dip as low as 22 degrees. Ice has the potential to develop before a high of 51 degrees Thursday, mostly before the morning commute.

In addition to overnight efforts, some highways were pre-treated to keep them open longer. The state said there is more than enough product to last until the freeze is over.

Although most roads have reopened, the Department of Transportation and Development has asked people to remain at home and venture out only when the highways have completely defrosted.

Motorists can access the latest updates on real-time traffic and road conditions using the 511 Traveler Information System by dialing 511 from their telephone and saying the route or region about which they are seeking information.
