BATON ROUGE - Police and firefighters are on the scene of a train derailment on Friday morning near the intersection of S. Choctaw Dr. and N. Sherwood Forest Dr.

Early reports from Baton Rouge firefighters said that evacuations of nearby businesses had begun, but now firefighters say there are no evacuations even though some nearby businesses chose to evacuate personnel as a precautionary measure.

BRFD confirmed that seven cars are off the rails and a HAZMAT crew was on the scene. Firefighters said the derailed cars were carrying silica and lube oil.

Police said there are no reported injuries at this point.

S. Choctaw Dr. is currently closed in both directions from N. Sherwood Forest Dr. to Monterrey Blvd. At 11:20 a.m., BRPD said they expect the eastbound lanes of S. Choctaw to reopen within 20 minutes.
