BAKER- City leaders scrapped a plan for an ordinance that would have required a special permit before certain venues can host birthday parties or similar events for teenagers.
Instead, city council members decided on writing a resolution to encourage businesses to follow a list of suggested ways to make events safer. The council met during a work session Monday.
The discussion was prompted by a quadruple shooting at a teen's birthday party in March. Of the four people shot, three died.
The resolution would encourage venues to have certified security offices and not necessarily a Baker Police officer. Also, businesses would be asked not to serve alcohol if people under age will be attending. Council members said more specifics will be worked out in the future.
Councilwoman Joyce Burges said she was pleased with the meeting.
Burges hopes to have a finalized resolution introduced at a council meeting in July.
